We, the undersigned, hereby make application for membership in the Scale Manufacturers Association, a nonprofit Association incorporated in the state of Illinois. We certify that we comply with Article I, Section 1 (Eligibility) of the SMA Bylaws, as shown on the reverse of this form. We agree to pay properly assessed dues and to abide by the Bylaws of the Association with the understanding that all information furnished to SMA shall at all times be held in strict confidence.

SECTION 1. ELIGIBILITY (a) Any business entity that for a period of one or more years immediately preceding the date of its membership application has been engaged within the United States in the manufacture or sale of scales, balances, weighing or force measuring machines, or major weighing elements (e.g., load receivers, transducers, or primary indicators) shall be eligible to apply for membership in the Scale Manufacturers Association, Inc. (b) The Board of Directors may from time to time, by a majority vote of the entire Board, create such classes of membership as it may consider necessary or proper for the best interests of the Corporation, such classes to have and be subject to such rights, powers, privileges, restrictions and limitations as the Board may deem appropriate. (c) The word “manufacture,” as used in Section 1(a), is defined as including production or integration of weighing or force measuring systems; assembly or fabrication of component parts of sub-assemblies of systems; and development and production of such parts, equipment or systems by others, pursuant to contract specifications of the applicant for membership. (d) The word “sale,” as used in Section 1(a), is defined as including sales of products specified in Section 1(a) by manufacturers, integrators, and assemblers but excluding resale of these products by dealers and distributors. 

SECTION 2. APPLICATION AND ELECTION FOR MEMBERSHIP (a) Application for membership shall be submitted in writing in such form as the Board of Directors may prescribe. The applicant shall certify in writing that their company meets the above eligibility requirements. (b) Approval of such applications shall be by majority vote of the Board of Directors, either at a regular or special Board meeting or by mail ballot. (c) Upon approval of an application for membership, the applicant shall submit, in confidence, to the Executive Director the appropriate sales information for computation of membership dues, as specified in Article XI, Section 1(b) of these Bylaws. Such dues shall be billed immediately, proportioned on a monthly basis from the effective date of the application to the end of the then current fiscal year. The dues rate charged shall be the current Association rate, applied to the applicant’s previous year billings.
